The Forest of Dean
I like the Forest of Dean because there are many interesting people with lovely things to sell, a real hot bed of crafts and antiques. As an area, the Forest of Dean has always been attractive to American visitors, not least because of the purity of culture found there.
The Forest of Dean is a fabulous place to the west of Stroud and a must visit. I have found somewhere you can stay courtesy of my son Lee. Brian and Ann Turner have a bed and breakfast premises overlooking the Severn Vale and consequently amazing views to enjoy. Brian is well versed in local history and loves to share his knowledge with guests who are interested (he's never intrusive to people wanting privacy for their stay). As Brian about the gypsy boy who leaned on his own knife - no doubt this will lead to many other stories!
Staying for bed and breakfast in the Whitehouseworld accommodation is a great way to visit the area when the Severn Bore happens - simply email Brian and Ann and they will no doubt tell you when it's next due. You will also have many trails in the Forest of Dean itself and can hire cycles to enjoy healthy riding through the trees.
The Whitehouseworld website features a page of local attractions you can visit, making it possible to plan your itenirary before you get there. Attractions include museums, caves, places of natural beauty etc. Pony trekking is also available as an alternative to cycling.
